On behalf of Dr. Christine Finck, Surgeon-in-Chief / Peter Deckers Endowed Chair of Surgery, CareerPhysician, LLC, a leader in academic pediatric leadership recruitment, has initiated a national search to identify a talented and transformational leader to join the Division of Ophthalmology to serve as the institution’s first Director of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP).

The Director will have the responsibility to advance the regional delivery of ROP care by creating a vision to account for quality standards in screening, treatment with both laser and intravitreal injections and triage protocols to develop a nationally recognized ROP program to serve children throughout Connecticut, Upstate New York, and Western Massachusetts. The Director will also be responsible for facilitating the advancement of our ROP telemedicine program, which should encompass the mission and values of Connecticut Children’s, dedicated to improving the physical and emotional health of children through family-centered care, research, education, and advocacy.

A potential candidate will need to have the ability to be licensed in multiple states including Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts.

Opportunity Highlights:

• The Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology has 2 physicians, 3 optometrists and 3 advanced practice clinicians dedicated to serving children throughout Connecticut, Western Massachusetts, and Eastern New York - approximately 1,000,000 child lives and responsible for the oversight of 12 neonate units in the region.
• A dedicated ROP centered service will be the first of its kind at Connecticut Children’s and will elevate the division by enhancing the partnership with neonatology and regional partner, Nuvance Health, providing innovative solutions and structure to meet the high demand for ROP care in the region.  
• Connecticut Children’s is the only institution in the state that offers a unique, child-centered environment with the expertise of fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologists and the complement of multidisciplinary programs and diagnostic capabilities. The ophthalmology division provides a tremendous opportunity to build a nationally recognized clinical program with specific opportunities in retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), cataract surgery, and strabismus.

• Academic promotion occurs through the University of Connecticut and departmental and hospital leadership is open to considering individuals at any rank, provided they share a passion for ROP. Designed to be aggressive, the compensation annual package for the named Director will be a combination of a highly competitive salary guarantee and bonus structure driven by programmatic development and will also include additional incentives based on RVU benchmarks.
